The world was stunned when Oscar Pistorius, a much loved and respected South African Paralympic star, was arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Though this inspiring athlete admitted to shooting and killing this lovely model on the morning of February 14, 2013, he claimed that Reeva was accidently shot when mistaken as an intruder.
Pistorius was tried for murder, with prosecutors seeking a premeditated murder conviction. He was convicted of a lesser charge of culpable homicide. This conviction resulted in a sentence of a maximum of five years in prison. Unhappy with the results, the prosecution successfully appealed the verdict.
In the first appeal case, it was decided that the lower court didn't apply the law correctly. The conviction was upgraded to murder. Pistorius filed an appeal; however, if the appeal attempts fail, he will be back in court to be sentenced for the murder conviction which could carry a penalty of up to fifteen years.
Oscar was born in South Africa in 1986. Before his first birthday, he had both legs amputated below his knees due to a congenital condition. It seems he was always interested in sports despite being a double amputee.
During his childhood and teenage years, he participated in rugby, water polo, tennis, and wrestling. He was introduced to running after experiencing a knee injury and became a sprinter. He is commonly known as the Blade Runner due to the racing blades that he uses as prosthetics. He has also been known to play golf.
He began his sporting career by competing in disability
sports events. He is a Paralympics gold
medal recipient, has participated in able bodied sports events, including the Olympics,
and has done very well as a competitor.
Reeva was born in 1983 in South Africa. She died of a gunshot wound in 2013 at the age of 29. She was a beautiful young lady who had accomplished much in her short life.
Modeling and acting were her primary interest. At the time of her death, her career was on the rise. She began modeling in her teenage years. She won several awards and even ranked as one of the sexiest women in the world. She had appeared on television, and shortly before her death, she had landed a contract for a television series.
Aside from her natural talent, Reeva took education seriously. She attended a university and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2005. She worked as a paralegal while pursuing her dream of modeling and acting.
At the time of the incident that resulted in Reeva's death,
the couple had only been dating for a few months. In Oscar's trial, the relationship between the
two was examined. The relationship has been described as loving, although Oscar has been portrayed a jealous man. There are also indications that Oscar scared Reeva sometimes.
